I don’t go to the Queens Head in Newton nearly enough. Every time I do go I think I should go again soon, then months go by and I remember I haven’t. I should do better, it’s such a nice pub, it’s like pubs used to be but also better than they used to be. Wikipedia says it’s appeared in every edition of The Good Beer Guide since it began in the 1970s, I don’t doubt it. Aside from the pub you’ve got a nice big recreation ground, a sports and social club and a nursery. Its primary school is shared with Harston, about a mile away, which also has a post office, shop, fuel station, Porsche dealership and various other facilities.

Newton is far enough off the main roads that it’s not too busy but is only about 3.5 miles south of Cambridge, 3 miles from junction 11 of the M11 and 4 miles from the quick service mainline station at Whittlesford Parkway. If you like to drink-in the countryside there’s a pleasant footpath route at the end of Town Street and a bridleway heading east off Whittlesford Road and into the rising sun.
