The name Horseheath comes from the old English words Horse – a rideable animal that’s a bit like a thin cow or a large dog, and Heath – meaning heath. It’s a small village about 12 miles south east of Cambridge, not really one you’d ever pass through unless you live nearby as it’s bypassed by the A1307 so it’s pleasingly more free of car traffic than many.

It has the usual good things you’d hope for from a small village – a nice old pub, a church, village hall, sports field, that sort of thing and the neighbouring village, Linton (2.5 miles) has most of what you need beyond this – primary and secondary schools, GP, café, pubs, a zoo.

It’s a great village for the keen countryside enthusiast with footpaths pinging off in all directions including the old Roman Road track that passes along the top of the village and goes almost all the way to Cambridge.

It also has just a bit of undulation, more than the villages nearer Cambridge at least.

For you big shop there are major supermarkets in Haverhill (3 miles) plus gyms and a swimming pool, a golf club and lots of cafes and bars and all the other things you’d expect from a market town.
